Tell us about your background in physiotherapy:
I completed my Physiotherapy Degree at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. After returning to HK, I started working at Queen Mary Hospital for a few years where I was blessed to work with an amazing team of clinicians and gained valuable experience in a wide range of settings including orthopaedic wards, A&E, stroke wards, ICUs, isolation wards and the musculoskeletal outpatient clinic.
To enhance my skillset and knowledge, I completed the Master of Medical Sciences from HKU where I specialised in orthopaedics and traumatology which gave me an opportunity to work closely together with some renowned orthopaedic surgeons in HK. I have also been taking up continuous professional development in areas such as Modern Acupuncture, Soft-tissue Manual Therapy and Craniosacral Therapy.
What are your interests?
I am a massive football and life-long Man United fan!
Tell us about a life-changing experience or adventure you’ve been on.
I became overweight after I completed my studies in the UK, weighing 77kg with a BMI of 28, and consequently suffered from severe knee pain and back pain. After returning to HK, I was determined to get back into shape. Thanks to the support of my family and friends, I managed to lose 18kg within 3 months by utilising my knowledge of physiotherapy, human physiology, dieting and exercises.
As much as I hated my past of being overweight, this unique journey of weight reduction enabled me to gain some unique insights of the mental and physical barriers of people with pain or weight problems. I am determined to work with my clients to live a healthy and active lifestyle again.
What is your area of expertise?
Fascia is a web-like connective tissue that connects body muscles, tendons, bones, vessels and organs. When fascia becomes entangled, the body becomes misaligned and results in pain. My expertise is in dealing with the smoothness of fascia and unlocking the “knots” within one’s body using my manual techniques. I also specialise in workplace-related pain including neck pain, back pain and neck-related headaches.
What is the most fulfilling part of this job?
Working together with my clients as a team in ridding their pain and regaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
