Post-Surgery Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy
How Does Post-Surgery Rehabilitation Help?
Most types of surgery present patients with a number of post operative consequences which can be helped with physiotherapy. Rehabilitation can help speed up recovery from a wide range of operations be it orthopaedic, cardiac, thoracic, neurological or abdominal surgery.
With the help of a physiotherapist, you will learn the safest way to walk, bathe, get dressed, and take care of yourself. You will learn exercises to make your muscles stronger and help you improve the way you move the part of your body where you had your surgery.
Assessment
Surgery can have both physical and psychological effects which may influence your recovery and cause frustration and anxiety. Our physiotherapists will carry out a thorough assessment and work with you to plan short and long-term goals to help you to maximise your recovery potential and reduce any side effects of surgery.
Treatment Sessions
Our physiotherapists will teach you how to manage your pain effectively with the aim of helping you return to your daily routine.
Treatment sessions will feature a range of activities, including:
- Strengthening of weak muscles
- Soft tissue massage
- Improving posture
- Relaxation techniques
- Mobilisation exercises
- Advice to increase comfort and mitigate the risk of injury and protect the surgical area
The outcome of rehabilitation often varies according to the patients’ circumstances, including if they have undergone other surgeries or have other underlying health conditions.
