Tell us about your background in physiotherapy:
After obtaining my physiotherapy degree at a top UK university, I immediately began my career specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. Early on in my training at university I already knew that my passion was in musculoskeletal disorders and I started my junior training in the national health service (NHS UK) working in outpatients settings, before moving on to working in both the private and public sector.
During my career I have worked with world renowned companies, treating their staff for all sorts of occupational related injuries / disorders, aiming to get them back into work.
I have also worked in professional football in the UK with a local team during their season in the British Championships league as well as their younger academy teams.
Prior to moving to Hong Kong, I managed and ran a physiotherapy clinic, making sure clients and staff alike were happy and most importantly getting better!
What are your interests?
I like to go to the gym and also do some light jogging when I can. I have recently taken up weight lifting, which still needs some work but I am thoroughly enjoying this discipline. I also enjoy music and singing is my main instrument.
Tell us about a life-changing experience or adventure you’ve been on.
At Age 17 I broke my ankle during a netball match, and I was unable to play for some time. initially I didn’t receive very good rehab and I struggled with the recovery and phasing back into the game and often ended up with further small sprains. This is when I started researching and exploring high functional rehabilitation and I developed an understanding into just how important rehab is for not only sports but also any injuries in that case. This fuelled my love for not only getting people better but educating clients on how to take their rehab further after treatment has finished.
What is your area of expertise?
I am a believer that knowledge is key, I take time in understanding and getting to know my client’s lifestyle and goals, to best tailor my treatment for them. I am an avid fan of manual therapy and soft tissue treatment, my approach is to combine these techniques with client specific and bespoke rehabilitation exercise programmes.
What is the most fulfilling part of this job?
The most fulfilling part is firstly getting clients better, seeing them become pain free but most importantly is getting clients back into what they have had to stop doing due to their injuries. That always brings a smile to my face!
