Tell us about your background in physiotherapy:

I graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with First Class Honours and Dean’s Honours List. During the undergraduate study, besides having rotations in different hospitals, I volunteered in different sports teams and events, such as the PolyU Women Basketball and USRC Tigers Rugby Team, and provided on-field physiotherapy assessment and treatments to athletes. These experiences boosted my interest to pursue further in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy.

After graduation, I have been working in a private clinic in HK, treating all kinds of musculoskeletal conditions, such as sports injuries, work-related pain, jaw pain, overuse, and repetitive strains. Moreover, I have treated hundreds of patients suffering from vestibular dysfunction experiencing vertigo and dizziness through repositioning techniques and exercises.

With my interest in sports physiotherapy, I have continued my on-field physiotherapy work. I am currently one of the team physiotherapists of the PolyU Women basketball team and the Hong Kong Football Association Youth Representative teams.

What are your interests?

I enjoyed all kinds of sports, swimming, basketball, football, gym, etc. The one that I have been playing and training the most is tennis. I am currently competing in the A+ league in HK. I enjoy making friends through tennis and the mental side of the game where I have to stay calm under adverse situations. It does strengthen my mentality.

Tell us about a life-changing experience or adventure you’ve been on.

My first overseas training camp as a physiotherapist with the HK U-14 Football Representative Team is a very special experience for me. Growing up as an athlete, I always wanted to be a team physiotherapist working together with athletes and coaches. It was like a dream come true.

The trip is super hectic, providing treatments to athletes, preparing recovery and mobility sessions, leading warm-up programs, taping ahead of games, and making decisions of athletes playing time due to injury. But the bonding I made with these athletes is so rewarding that makes this trip revive my strong passion with physiotherapy. I am very excited for my new chapter with Sport and Spinal!

What is your area of expertise?

I have profound interest and expertise in managing musculoskeletal conditions and vestibular conditions.

I have treated lots of sports injuries, spinal pain related to work and jaw pain in my past working experience. I also treat different vestibular conditions, such as BPPV, hypofunction, and cervicogenic dizziness.

Speaking about treatment techniques, I utilise a wide range of manual therapy techniques, such as, mobilisation, soft tissue releases, or manipulation. I also practice a lot of acupuncture for inflammation and pain control. Apart from passive treatment, I believe that exercise is the best medicine. Hence, I prescribe tailor-made exercise plans for all my patients.

What is the most fulfilling part of this job?

I find it very rewarding and meaningful to help my patients on their rehabilitation journey. I am grateful that I am able to get my athletes back to peak performance and office workers to get rid of pain. Besides helping my patients and athletes to gradually return to function and peak performances, I found that bonding with my patients is also very fulfilling, I really enjoy making connections and making friends with my patients!
