Back Care Tip #5: McKenzie Extensions

Do you slouch for hours working or studying in-front of the computer? The McKenzie extension/ stretch can help to relief your stiff back by extending your spine and reverse the effects of siting slouched for long periods of the day.

Step 1:   Lying face down on a firm surface, use your arms to extend you up and backwards

Step 2:   This needs to be pain free and with the hips, stay in contact with the floor

Step 3:   Repeat 10 times slowly without holding the position

 

** Please note that it is highly recommended you seek advice from one of our physiotherapists before commencing any stretching programme if you experience any pain. These stretches should be pain free and patients should breathe normally while holding the stretch if required.
